IRI - Afagh ready for one final fling with Mahram before moving

TEHRAN, Iran (23rd FIBA Asia Champions Cup): Top Iranian shooting guard Hamed Afagh is all set to move to don the colors of Petro Chimi for the forthcoming season in the Iranian Super League. But a man of commitment and dedication as Afagh is known, the 29-year-old will be available for Mahram at the 23rd FIBA Asia Champions Cup starting at Beirut on Monday.

Afagh has been an integral part of all Mahram campaigns in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup – twice leading them to the gold medal at the 20th FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Jakarta (Indonesia) in 2009 and at the 21st FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Doha (Qatar) a year later. Before that Afagh was a part of the Saba Battery team that won back-to-back titles at the 18th and 19th FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Tehran and Kuwait respectively.

It may be recalled that it was Afagh, who played braving an ankle injury, who steered Mahram to the gold medal in the 21st FIBA Asia Champions Cup in Doha (Qatar).

In 2011, Afagh was playing for Zob Ahan in the Iranian Super League, but his superlative shooting skills called the then coach Mehran Shahintab to borrow him for the 22nd FIBA Asia Champions Cup at Manila, where Mahram lost to Al Riyadi Beirut in the final.

A successful season that has followed for Afagh with Mahram which included title triumphs in the WABA League as well as the Iranian Super League.

Most recently, Afagh caught the eye leading Iran to winning the 4th FIBA Asia Cup in Tokyo where he also made the All-Stars line-up.
