MANILA, Philippines (PBA Governor’s Cup): Barangay Ginebra Kings, arguably the most popular franchise in the PBA circuit, continued their winning streak in the semifinals in the 2011-12 PBA Governor’s Cup with their third successive win, this time against the race leaders Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

Ginebra’s 95-86 triumph against the Painters, their third successive success in the semifinals, took them one win short of an assured play-off game for the No 2 spot.

All teams carry forward their win-loss record from the Elimination Round into the semifinals. The top two teams at the end of the round-robin semifinals will play the best-of-seven Finals.

Any team winning at least four of their semifinal games and not finishing in the second spot will earn a play-off opportunity that finishes second with only the carry-over results.

2011-12 PBA All-Philippine Cup champions Talk N Text, a team that has made the Finals of all five previous conferences – including all three of last year – were the biggest gainers of the mid-week action winning both their games.

Coached by Chot Reyes, who will guide the Philippines National Team at the 4th FIBA Asia Cup in Tokyo from Sept 14-22, TnT won 108-84 against Meralco Bolts on Wednesday and followed it up by beating defending champions Petron Blaze Boosters 103-94 on Friday.

Petron, incidentally were the biggest losers having lost their other game of this round – to 2011-12 PBA Commissioner’s Cup winners B-Meg Llamados 93-104 on Wednesday.

The Llamados failed to maintain the momentum and lost 101-104 to Bolts on Friday, thus surrendering the opportunity to lay sole claim on the No 2 spot.

The Llamados now are tied for the No 2 spot with Ginebra Kings whom they clash with on Saturday.
