NANJING, China (East Asian Championship): Korea defeated Japan 89-73 in the final of the East Asian Championship on Wednesday en route to booking their ticket to the 26th FIBA Asia Championship to be played in Wuhan (China) from Sept 15-25.
In the play-off for the third place, hosts China overwhelmed Chinese Taipei 87-53.
All the four teams will figure in the 26th FIBA Asia Championship with China having already qualified automatically as the hosts. Japan finished second in the 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup at Beirut last year thus earning East Asia an additional berth along with the allotted two slots.
