ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia (22nd FIBA Asia U18 Championship): It’s certainly not every day that you find players of 200-cms height, that too at the junior level, from certain parts of the world. Therefore, when someone like Vincent Kosasih enters the court wearing the Indonesian National colors with his 202-cms frame it’s obvious that the attention centers around him.
The BPK Penabur 11th grader made his first double-digit scoring and missed a double-double by one rebound in Indonesia’s final game here – against Bahrain – which helped the team finish 11th.
Excerpts from his conversation with this website.
On the improvement achieved after the 2nd FIBA Asia U16 Championship at Nha Trang City (Vietnam) in 2011 till now
When I played in Vietnam it was my first international experience. But now I am more confident. But then the opposition and players were not as difficult to play against as here. Obviously the players here belong to a higher age group and therefore a lot better. It’s been a great experience.
On his performance here
Well, I played against some of the best players for the future in Asian basketball. The experience gained here will last me a lifetime. I think some of these players I played against will go on to become big stars. May be my stats don’t show much, but that doesn’t matter really as long as I am improving.
On the areas that he needs to focus for future training
Skills-wise there is always scope for improvement. I know that can be achieved with regular practice and a lot of hard work. That’s what I am doing.
But I also think I need to gain more experience so that I don’t get nervous and edgy under pressure. But I am hopeful I’ll improve with time.
